School Visit For International Women’s Day

NIFCO ADMIN     7th March 2025

On Tuesday 4th March 2025 as part of International Women’s Day, Nifco held an open morning for a group of female students from Ferryhill School. The students attended a presentation about Nifco, which focused on the variety of jobs offered at Nifco, specifically the variety of engineering vocations offered at Nifco.

The group then had an immersive experience and tour of the factory getting hands on and participating in the ‘line trial’ that candidates complete as part of an assessment for a job as a Production Operator.  The students really enjoyed this experience putting parts together and completing quality checks.

Many thanks to Richenda Russell who is one of Nifco’s Trainers, Richenda was patient and knowledgeable guiding the students through the line trial process.

The students gave feedback about the day:

“Very helpful giving me ideas for the future”

“I enjoyed learning about all the kinds of jobs available at the company and trying out the tasks”

“I enjoyed seeing the robots and trying the line trial”

“ I found it interesting that you can get free physiotherapy and counselling in the workplace”

“The staff were very helpful, I gained a lot of knowledge from the visit. I mostly enjoyed learning about the apprenticeships and how you can work your way up a company. It was also good to learn about the other sides of the business like IT and sales”

“ I really enjoyed seeing people at work the most and doing the practical task. The visit gave me a good idea of different positions available in the workplace, apprenticeships and what the working hours might be like compared to school”

“ I enjoyed the visit as it allowed me to see what it might be like getting an apprenticeship”

“I feel I gained key information and insights into different jobs within engineering and the skills needed. I found it interesting to learn the amount of people that have to focused in what they are doing to get the work done. I learned about wellbeing days and cycle to work which I think would be important at work”
