Royal return for HRH The Duke of York

Nifco     11th December 2014

We enjoyed our second royal visit, with HRH The Duke of York, KG opening our new £12.8million premises on December 3.

The Duke of York visited our second facility in Eaglescliffe, which sits on land adjacent to our main factory, Nifco House, that was also opened by His Royal Highness only two years ago. The Duke of York spent more than an hour at our facility, speaking to managing director Mike Matthews MBE, as well as many of our apprentices and members of our 400-strong team.

The new 61,451 sq ft premises is providing additional factory floor space to increase our capacity, as well as housing a specially designed research and development facility where we can develop new products.

Mike Matthews said: ‘We have been really excited about this expansion and we’re delighted The Duke of York visited us again to see our progress.

‘It has been a busy and productive two years since His Royal Highness’s last visit. We have increased turnover from £38m to more almost £60m, and with the new R&D facility we’re expecting turnover and productivity to continue to rise as it keeps us well placed to stay ahead for our clients.’

He added: ‘The second factory is a stunning new space, and a very visible sign of the speed at which the company is growing. It was fantastic to have the chance to update The Duke on Nifco’s development.’

The new facility opened in April, and will have created a total of 295 jobs, including 20 high-end research and development jobs, when it reaches capacity.

Leader of Stockton Council, Councillor Bob Cook, said: ‘It was fantastic to see Nifco welcome The Duke of York to Eaglescliffe once again. It was a wonderful opportunity for him to see the significant progress that has been made since his last visit.

‘Stockton is a great place to do business and Nifco is a great business. The success of Nifco is an excellent example of how the public and private sector are working alongside each other to encourage business growth.’
