Nifco's History

Nifco was founded in 1967, at a time when Japan was undergoing a period of rapid industrialization led by the automotive and home electronics industries. It was a competitive age of mass production when emphasis was placed on increasing manufacturing efficiency—especially that of the multifarious automobile and home electronic appliance production lines. Nifco turned its attention early on to devising ways to reduce labour and manpower in the manufacturing process and became the first company to introduce plastic as an alternative to metal for use as fasteners.

Nifco fasteners make full use of the superior characteristics of plastic: lightweight, rustproof and highly mouldable. Although small in size, Nifco fasteners have made a major contribution to the automobile and home electronic production processes and brought about a "Fastening Revolution" in Japan. Nifco was listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange only twelve years after its founding and on the First Section less than five years later.

What are fasteners?
Almost everything manufactured in the world today is made up of many discrete parts. Some, like automobiles, are assembled using a massive number of parts. However, the parts alone do not make a finished product. They must be joined together, and fasteners such as string, nails, nuts, and bolts are what complete the product. Nifco was the first company in Japan to adapt a never-before-used material—plastic—for use as fasteners. The company has since developed numerous innovative fasteners such as plastic rivets, screw grommets and weather strip clips.

An Expanding Global Network
Nifco
set its sights on the world early on and, beginning with its expansion to Taiwan in 1983, Nifco has since grown into a group with subsidiaries and affiliated companies in twelve countries around the world including the United Kingdom, Asia and United States of America. The Nifco Group supplies products to Japanese automobile and home electronic appliance manufacturers as well as eight foreign automobile manufacturers, including Ford Motor Company and Toyota, Honda & Nissan. As globalization advances, Nifco aims to become a major player in the global economy by setting up operations in four corners of the world: Japan, Asia, North America and Europe.
